The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is using new technology to redesign support for people looking for jobs or career progression.
Our goal
A lifelong, digital-first jobs and careers service which provides personalised coaching, smart job matching and access to human support when needed.
What this means for you
This initiative does not cover the whole UK. Whether it applies depends on the service and where it is available.
If you live in England and are looking to find a new job or progress in your career, you’ll benefit from:
- Personalised support: you’ll receive personalised job search and career advice tailored to your individual needs.
- Skills and training: you’ll receive support with training and skills development through a new jobs and careers service.
If you live in Scotland or Wales some parts of the service will be different because the Scottish and Welsh Governments have responsibility for providing careers and skills support. If you’re looking to find a new job or progress in your career, you’ll experience:
- Personalised employment support: you’ll be able to access personalised job search and employment support tailored to your individual needs.
- Skills and training: you could receive skills and careers support provided by the Scottish or Welsh Government. DWP will work with the Scottish and Welsh Governments to ensure the new service works effectively with these services.
If you own or run a business, you’ll get faster access to talent in England, Scotland and Wales, smarter candidate-matching tools, verified data on candidates (including their skills, work history and right to work), better local labour market intelligence and a single route to DWP support.
In Northern Ireland, employment, skills and careers support are delivered by the Northern Ireland Executive.
Our progress so far
April 2025: launched ‘test and learn’ discovery in local Jobcentre
If you live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, you may have been involved in a discovery to learn how to identify people suited to a digital journey, when people might need extra support and how best to work with people looking for work.
September 2025: test new service with up-to-date technology
Started testing the personalised support you told us you needed using modern technology, including tools and advice to help you plan, find or progress in work, increase earnings, change career or re-train.
What we’re planning to do next
October 2026: launch a combined jobs and careers service in England
You’ll have access to a combined service which will support you to search for jobs based on your skills and provide personalised careers advice. This will make it easier for you to understand your skills, use them to find or change jobs and increase your earnings.
